Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Flash-Lite TTS prices double on 1 January 2027

2026/09/28

Google made its text-to-speech models Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS generally available on 22 September 2026[1]. The model codes are gemini-3.8-flash-tts and gemini-3.8-flash-lite-tts[2]. The Gemini API also gained a Voices endpoint, /v1beta/voices[1].

Google describes Flash TTS as engineered for studio-grade voice fidelity, expressive acting and long-form stability[2]. Flash-Lite TTS is optimized for high-throughput, low-latency and cost-efficient conversational speech[2].

Per million tokens, text input is $0.50 on both[2]. Audio output is $9 on Flash TTS and $6 on Flash-Lite TTS[2].

Audio is counted at 25 tokens per second[2]. Ten seconds of speech costs $0.00225 on Flash TTS and $0.0015 on Flash-Lite TTS, which works out to $0.81 and $0.54 an hour[2].

Those rates run through 31 December 2026[2]. From 1 January 2027 input becomes $1.00 and output $18 on Flash TTS and $12 on Flash-Lite TTS, so every rate doubles[2].

Batch is half the standard rate on both, at $0.25 input and $4.50 or $3.00 output[2]. Batch rates double on the same date[2].

On the free tier, input and output are free of charge on both models[2]. Batch is not available on the free tier[2].
